I love to see my students connect with music and develop their own voice. In my teaching, I balance play and structure, improv and memorization, theory and intuition, learning by ear and reading from the page. My teaching style is indebted to my own teachers, with particular gratitude that they instilled a dedication to the instrument alongside an awareness of how to use the body safely and effectively while playing. This is liberating; every instrument is as much a physical act as a mental one. No matter the style, awareness of our body is key to executing what we want others to hear.

In addition to my teachers’ guidance, I also know that my own self-discovery through a wide variety of styles has been crucial to making my musical path a lifelong journey that continues to excite me. To help a student achieve their musical dreams, I believe in a balance between strong technical foundations, a collaborative approach at every stage of learning, and independent exploration.
I learn from my students every day, and co-creation with them not only helps them develop their voice, but also helps me grow in my own musical language. I love using a student’s favorite learning tools, while simultaneously helping them grow in the less comfortable ones, in order to understand why beautiful sounds work the way they do and how to make them your own.
How Lessons Work
I currently offer in-home lessons, traveling to you. My location schedule is as follows:
Vashon – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
Seattle – Tuesday
Feel free to contact me for more details on my availability using the contact form below.
Students can book lessons with me one of two ways:
Weekly Lessons
Book a standing lesson time that will be reserved for you every week, and pay for that month up-front. This ensures that your time will be reserved no matter what, and leads to more consistent growth as a student. Most of my prime slots after school (2-8pm or so) get reserved this way. I work with students on reschedules and make-up time/material as needed, to ensure that you get the lesson time you pay for, even if something comes up.
One-Off Lessons
Book lessons on a one-off basis. This can work well for adult students who have irregular schedules. Lessons of this kind must be paid day-of, are still billed if cancelled less than 24 hours before, and are not subject to reschedule.
Pricing
Regardless of the regularity of lessons, my rates are:
$90 / 1 hour session
$75 / 45 minute session
$60 / 30 minute session
